COMMERCIAL ARCHITECTURAL   PHOTOGRAPHY

JULY 29th - 30th 2024

Architectural Hands-On Photography & Post-Production Workshop

Join us for this incredible hands on Architectural workshop!

If you want to take your interior and architectural photographs to the next level then this workshop with Randy is for you.  You will learn techniques you can incorporate into your own architectural, interior or real estate photography from a renown expert in this arena. In this workshop you will be working directly with Randy as he photographs interiors during the daylight, dusk and twilight. Lighting, styling, composition and Photoshop techniques will be incorporated in each phase.  Once completed you will leave with a new sense of confidence knowing you can work in any situation and make your clients happy.

Day One

For our daytime interior shoot, we'll explore a number of lighting techniques to give different looks to the same scene, discuss composition and the reasons for it, and learn about styling and the basic rules of shooting interiors professionally.

For the twilight/dusk shot, Randy will discuss the reasons for shooting at that time that creates images that engage viewers and please clients.  In addition, you'll learn how to add light painting and composite different elements together to easily create beautiful twilight architectural images while faced with any number of challenges such as dismal skies, poor lighting or people and cars in the image.

Day Two

This workshop contains one full day of location work and one full day of classroom work. Randy will go though his workflow, answer questions about techniques, the industry, marketing and of course any questions you have about lighting and post processing. Time is built in for reviewing every facet of creating these images, so if you have any questions, feel free to prepare them and ask during classroom time, no question is off limits. Every student will receive a copy of the raw images at the end of the workshop to continue their learning experience.

Students Will Learn

You will learn a variety of techniques—both in the field and in the classroom—that will allow you to advance both your technical skills and artistic vision. We focus on a number of professional field techniques to help you create dramatic and powerful images, some of these will included:

  1. Lighting interior and exterior architecture

  2. Using Strobe & Ambient lighting to create dramatic images

  3. Light Painting interior and exterior architecture

  4. How to effectively shoot and light nearly any space, from small rooms to complex multi-room shot

  5. Twilight exterior photographs

  6. Composition tips for photographing architecture

  7. Selecting images to tell a story

We’ll also teach you a number of professional “digital darkroom” secrets as well. Our hands-on intensive seminars will teach you the fundamentals of image processing, and allow you to master important techniques including:

  1. Workflow in Adobe Lightroom that works for architectural photography

  2. Photoshop for architectural photography

  3. Layer masking and image blending techniques to re-light an image

  4. Marketing tips for architectural photographers

  5. Equipment for architectural photography

In years past, students have also come away from the workshop with a greater understanding of business practices, marketing practices, client relations and file management.

What Students Should Bring

Students do not NEED anything but themselves, but I highly recommend a laptop with Photoshop and Lightroom installed so that they can follow along during classroom time and post processing with the images we create. Since we will only be using one camera to teach with, students do not need to bring a camera, but they WILL be supplied with ALL of the raw images that we take in the workshop. If you want to take behind the scenes photos as we go though the lighting process, by all means bring your camera.
