Tuscany Uncorked
A Wine & Photography Workshop in the Heart of Tuscany
October 3 - 8, 2027
-
Photograph Tuscany’s iconic landscapes during beautiful sunrise and evening light
-
Experience eight winery visits and tastings across Tuscany’s renowned wine regions
-
Explore historic hill towns, vineyards, architecture, and unforgettable Tuscan countryside
Experience Tuscany through two of its greatest traditions, beautiful art and exceptional wine. Join award-winning photographer Randy Van Duinen and wine expert Thaddeus Buggs for an unforgettable journey through the rolling landscapes, vineyards, medieval hill towns, and historic architecture of one of Italy’s most beautiful regions.
Our photography will be planned around the best light of the day, with early morning and evening shoots throughout the Tuscan countryside. We’ll photograph cypress-lined roads, vineyards, ancient villages, historic landmarks, and the classic landscapes of the Val d’Orcia while Randy provides hands-on instruction in composition, technique, and creating stronger travel and landscape images.
During the day, we’ll turn our attention to Tuscany’s celebrated wine culture with two winery visits and tastings each day. Thaddeus will guide us through the wines, winemaking traditions, and characteristics of the regions we visit, from Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano to the wines of Chianti. Along the way, we’ll experience the food, history, and relaxed pace that make Tuscany such a special destination.
Limited to just 12 participants, Tuscany Uncorked is designed to be more than a photography workshop or wine tour. It’s a small-group experience combining photography, wine, food, culture, and time spent exploring Tuscany with two instructors who bring different areas of expertise to the journey. A pre-workshop online meeting will help you prepare, while a post-workshop session will focus on image processing, image review, and your photography questions.
This itinerary is subject to change due to weather, local conditions, winery availability, and other factors.
October 3, 2027: Arrival in Tuscany, Orientation and Welcome Dinner
We’ll meet participants at Florence Airport and travel together through the Tuscan countryside to San Quirico d'Orcia and our hotel. After checking in and having time to settle into our rooms, we’ll meet Randy and Thaddeus for workshop orientation followed by our welcome dinner.
October 4, 2027: Val d'Orcia Sunrise, Montalcino Wine Tastings, Belvedere Sunset
We’ll start our first full day photographing the rolling hills, farmhouses, cypress trees, and morning mist of the Val d'Orcia at sunrise. After breakfast, we’ll travel toward Montalcino for two winery experiences, including a visit to Podere il Cocco, a small organic producer of Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino. Following some afternoon downtime, we’ll photograph the Tuscan landscape around Belvedere and the Val d'Orcia through golden hour and sunset before returning to the hotel for dinner. Podere il Cocco offers winery tastings by reservation.
October 5, 2027: Tuscany Sunrise, Montepulciano and Vino Nobile, Evening Photography
We’ll begin with another sunrise shoot among the hills and cypress-lined roads of the Val d'Orcia before returning for breakfast. Our day continues to Montepulciano, where we’ll explore the historic hill town and visit two wineries to learn about and taste Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. In the late afternoon, we’ll head back into the countryside to photograph vineyards, hill towns, and the Tuscan landscape in the warm evening light before dinner at the hotel.
October 6, 2027: Sunrise Photography, Siena, Chianti Wine and Sunset
We’ll photograph another carefully selected Tuscan landscape at sunrise before breakfast and then travel north toward Siena and the Chianti region. We’ll spend time photographing Siena's medieval streets, architecture, and Piazza del Campo before visiting two wineries for tastings led by Thaddeus. Late in the day, we’ll select a location outside Siena or in the surrounding countryside for golden-hour and sunset photography before returning to San Quirico for dinner.
October 7, 2027: San Galgano, Antinori Wine Experience, Final Sunset and Closing Dinner
We’ll begin our final full day with sunrise photography before traveling to San Galgano to photograph its extraordinary roofless Gothic abbey and surrounding Tuscan landscape. From there, we’ll continue our wine experience with two final tastings, with the goal of including Antinori as one of the highlights of the workshop. The architecturally remarkable Antinori nel Chianti Classico offers several tasting experiences ranging from three-wine introductions to extensive seven-wine experiences. We’ll finish our photography at a location selected for the best evening light before returning to the hotel for our closing dinner.
October 8, 2027: Final Sunrise, Breakfast and Return to Florence
We’ll head out early for one final sunrise photography session in the Val d'Orcia before returning to the hotel for breakfast and checkout. We’ll then travel together to Florence Airport, concluding our Tuscany Wine & Photography Workshop.
