Olympic National Park offers one of the most diverse landscapes in the Pacific Northwest, where ancient rain forests, rushing waterfalls, mountain-fed rivers, and rugged Pacific beaches come together in one extraordinary destination. Join award-winning photographer Randy Van Duinen for five days photographing some of the Olympic Peninsula’s most beautiful and iconic locations.
Mid-May is an ideal time to experience the park, when the forests are lush, waterfalls are flowing strongly with spring snowmelt, and the summer crowds have yet to arrive. We’ll photograph moss-covered forests, cascading waterfalls, dramatic sea stacks, tidal beaches, and the changing light of the Pacific coast.
With only six participants, this workshop provides plenty of individual instruction in the field. Randy will work alongside you on composition, long exposures, filters, camera technique, and developing a stronger approach to landscape photography.
The workshop also includes image reviews, Lightroom and Photoshop post-processing instruction, and two evening light-painting sessions, giving you opportunities to explore both traditional landscape photography and creative techniques after sunset.

May 12, 2027: Meetup, Welcome Dinner, Sunset Photography, and Light Painting
We’ll meet at the hotel for introductions and a workshop orientation before enjoying our welcome dinner. Afterward, we’ll head to Salt Creek Recreation Area for our first sunset photography session, followed by an introduction to creative light painting after blue hour.
May 13, 2027: Madison Falls, Lake Crescent, and Sunset at Second Beach
After breakfast, we’ll photograph Madison Falls and the beautiful landscapes surrounding Lake Crescent. Following an included lunch and some downtime, we’ll head to Second Beach to photograph its dramatic sea stacks, tidal pools, and Pacific coastline through sunset and blue hour.
May 14, 2027: Sol Duc Falls, Post-Processing Instruction, and Sunset at Rialto Beach
We’ll spend the morning photographing Sol Duc Falls and the surrounding old-growth forest before returning for an included lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll work on image review and post-processing before heading to Rialto Beach for sunset and blue-hour photography along the rugged Pacific coast.
May 15, 2027: Hoh Rain Forest, Post-Processing Instruction, and Evening Light Painting
We’ll explore the Hoh Rain Forest in the morning, photographing its moss-covered trees, ferns, and extraordinary old-growth landscape. After an included lunch, we’ll continue with image review and post-processing instruction before heading out for our second evening of creative light painting.
May 16, 2027: Final Photography Session and Farewell Lunch
We’ll begin our final morning with a photography session at a location selected according to the weather and conditions. Afterward, we’ll return for a final image review and workshop wrap-up before enjoying our farewell lunch together. The workshop concludes at approximately 1:00 PM.

The Olympic National Park Experience
Olympic National Park is designed for photographers who want to slow down and explore one of the most diverse landscapes in the Pacific Northwest. From moss-covered rain forests and rushing waterfalls to rugged beaches and dramatic sea stacks, each day offers something completely different to photograph.
With only six participants, we’ll have the flexibility to work around the weather, tides, and best available light. Randy will be beside you in the field, helping with composition, long exposures, filters, camera technique, and creative approaches to landscape photography.

Workshop Details
Fitness
Moderate: Expect walks of up to two miles on forest and coastal trails, sometimes over uneven terrain, roots, rocks, and sand while carrying your camera gear. Most locations are relatively easy to access, but participants should be comfortable walking outdoors on varied terrain.
Flights
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) is the nearest major airport. Participants are responsible for transportation to and from the workshop hotel. We recommend arriving early, possibly the day before, to avoid missing any of the workshop due to travel delays.

Workshop Tuition: $3,300
A $2,000 deposit reserves your place in Budapest Revealed. The remaining $1,300 balance is due March 1, 2027.
