Private Photography Workshop
Your Destination. Your Schedule. Your Photography.
Photography, Designed for You
Sometimes the best photography workshop is one created specifically for you. Whether you’re looking for one-on-one instruction, traveling with a few friends, or organizing a private group, Randy can create a personalized photography workshop built around where you want to go, what you want to photograph, and the skills you want to develop.
Your workshop can focus on architectural photography, travel, landscapes, Lightroom and Photoshop, light painting, or a combination tailored to your interests. Choose a destination you’ve always wanted to photograph, revisit a favorite location with a new perspective, or work with Randy to select a destination that fits the photographs you want to create.
Every private workshop is individually planned. Randy will work with you to develop the itinerary, photography locations, schedule, accommodations, transportation, and instruction based on your goals, group size, available time, and budget. From focused one-on-one instruction to a multi-day photography experience for a group of friends or a photography organization, we can customize the details around you.
Tell Randy where you’d like to go, what you want to photograph, what you’d like to learn, your preferred dates, group size, and budget. From there, he’ll create a personalized itinerary and proposal designed around your photography experience.

Itinerary
Here is an example of what a four-day private photography workshop in Death Valley National Park could look like. Every private workshop is customized around your destination, schedule, photography interests, and group.
February 7: Arrival at The Inn at Death Valley and Welcome Dinner
Arrive in Death Valley and check into The Inn at Death Valley, our base for the workshop. You’ll have the afternoon to settle in and enjoy the property before meeting Randy for an orientation and private welcome dinner. We’ll discuss your photography goals, equipment, and the locations and techniques we’ll explore over the next three days.
February 8: Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes Sunrise, Badwater Basin and Zabriskie Point Sunset
We’ll leave before dawn for Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes, photographing the patterns, shadows, and textures created by the first morning light. After breakfast and a midday break, we’ll explore Badwater Basin and other locations in the valley before finishing at Zabriskie Point for golden hour and sunset.
February 9: Death Valley Landscapes, Rhyolite Ghost Town and Light Painting
We’ll begin with an early-morning landscape shoot at a location selected according to the light and conditions. After breakfast and time to relax, we’ll travel to Rhyolite Ghost Town to photograph its abandoned buildings, ruins, and desert surroundings. As darkness falls, Randy will demonstrate light-painting techniques to create dramatic nighttime photographs of the historic structures.
February 10: Death Valley Sunrise, 4x4 Adventure to Racetrack Playa and Twilight Photography
We’ll begin with another sunrise location selected according to the conditions before returning for breakfast and a midday break. In the afternoon, we’ll travel by four-wheel-drive vehicles to remote Racetrack Playa, photographing its famous sailing stones and expansive desert landscape through late-afternoon light, sunset, and twilight.

The Private Workshop Experience
A private photography workshop gives you the freedom to create an experience built entirely around what you want to photograph and learn. Instead of following a predetermined itinerary, Randy will work with you to select the destination, locations, schedule, and photographic instruction that best fit your interests and goals.
Whether you want to spend several days photographing architecture in a European city, explore dramatic landscapes in the American West, improve your Lightroom and Photoshop skills, or combine several photographic interests into one trip, the experience can be designed around you. With one-on-one or small-group instruction, there is plenty of time for questions, experimentation, and working together in the field.
Your Destination, Your Photography
Choose a destination you have always wanted to photograph or work with Randy to select locations that complement the images you want to create.
A Workshop Built Around You
From architecture and landscapes to travel photography, light painting, composition, and post-processing, the instruction can be tailored to your interests and experience level.
Personal, Hands-On Instruction
With an individual, couple, family, or small group, Randy can spend more time working directly with each photographer, both in the field and during image review and post-processing sessions.

How It Works

Creating a private photography workshop begins with a conversation. Tell Randy where you would like to go, what you want to photograph, who will be joining you, and the skills you would like to develop. From there, Randy will work with you to create a photography experience built around your goals.
1. Tell Us What You Have in Mind
Share your destination ideas, preferred dates, number of participants, photography interests, experience level, and approximate budget. If you are unsure where to go, Randy can help suggest destinations based on what you would like to photograph.
2. We Design Your Workshop
FRandy will develop a proposed itinerary that considers the best photography locations, available light, travel logistics, accommodations, transportation, instruction, and time to enjoy the destination.
3. Customize the Details
We’ll work together to refine the itinerary, schedule, accommodations, and photographic instruction until the workshop fits what you are looking for.
4. Pack Your Camera and Go
Once everything is finalized, you’ll receive detailed information to help you prepare. Then it’s time to meet Randy and enjoy a photography workshop created specifically for you.
