Vincent Baumgartner

Born in Bienne, Switzerland, to a Hungarian mother, Vincent Baumgartner has always had a deep connection to Budapest, where he spent every summer as a child. After growing up in Switzerland, earning his bachelor's degree in Hungary, and living in both Ukraine and Iran, he returned to Budapest in 2018 to pursue his passion for documenting the city's remarkable architecture and the stories hidden within its historic buildings.

In 2018, Vincent launched his first project, Bricks of Budapest (Budapest Téglái), followed by Buildings Tell Tales in 2019. Since then, he has photographed more than 1,000 historic buildings throughout Budapest. His work goes far beyond documenting architecture—he uncovers the fascinating stories hidden behind the city's historic façades. By connecting the lives of ordinary people, including workers, students, merchants, and families, to the places they once lived and worked, Vincent brings Budapest's history to life. He believes these buildings should be preserved not only for their architectural beauty but also for the memories they hold and the stories they continue to tell.

Vincent's photographic journey began with a smartphone and a desire to document the world around him. That curiosity eventually led him to professional camera equipment and to study with experienced photographers, but his approach has remained the same: look closely, stay curious, and discover the story behind what you are photographing. Today, he shares that knowledge through photography, writing, and guided explorations of Budapest.

As co-instructor for the Budapest Photography Workshop, Vincent gives participants something few visitors experience: an insider's view of the city. Along with Budapest's iconic landmarks, he introduces photographers to hidden architectural treasures, historic interiors, and places most visitors never discover. His intimate knowledge of Budapest's architecture, history, and lesser-known locations adds another dimension to the photographic experience.
