Vincent Baumgartner

Born in Bienne, Switzerland, to a Hungarian mother, Vincent Baumgartner has always had a deep connection to Budapest, where he spent every summer as a child. After growing up in Switzerland, earning his bachelor's degree in Hungary, and living in both Ukraine and Iran, he returned to Budapest in 2018 to pursue his passion for documenting the city's remarkable architecture and the stories hidden within its historic buildings.

In 2018, Vincent launched his first project, Bricks of Budapest (Budapest Téglái), followed by Buildings Tell Tales in 2019. Since then, he has photographed more than 1,000 historic buildings throughout Budapest. His work goes far beyond documenting architecture—he uncovers the fascinating stories hidden behind the city's historic façades. By connecting the lives of ordinary people, including workers, students, merchants, and families, to the places they once lived and worked, Vincent brings Budapest's history to life. He believes these buildings should be preserved not only for their architectural beauty but also for the memories they hold and the stories they continue to tell.

Vincent's photographic journey began with nothing more than a smartphone and a desire to create beautiful images. That passion soon led him to invest in professional camera equipment and study with experienced photographers. He continues to refine his craft while sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with others through photography, writing, and guided explorations of Budapest.

As co-instructor for the Budapest Photography Workshop, Vincent offers participants a unique local perspective, introducing them to both the city's iconic landmarks and the hidden architectural treasures that most visitors never discover. His intimate knowledge of Budapest's history, architecture, and secret locations provides workshop participants with an unforgettable photographic experience.
